【seeker在大作中谈到:】 > >* Death in Rome * > > Mr. Jones is reading his daily newspaper. >He reads an article with the following headline: >“Woman dies in holiday accident.” It goes on to say, >“Mrs. Rigby-Brown,While on holiday with her husband in Rome, >fell to her death from the balcony of her seventh-floor room.” > Mr. Jones turns to his wife and says “That was not an accident. It was murder.” He had never met either of the >Rigby-Browns,so how could he know it was murder? > >The clues: >Question: Had Mr. Jones ever met either of the Rigby-Browns? >Answer: No. >Q: was he right in saying it was murder? >A: Yes. >Q: Was Mr. Rigby-Brown the murderer? >A: Yes. >Q: Had Mr. Jones ever communicated in any way with > Mrs. Rigby-Brown? >A: No. >Q: Had Mr. Jones, in his professional capacity, > provided some service to Mr. Rigby-Brown? >A: Yes. >Q: Did he deduce from this service and the newspaper > article that Mrs. Rigby-Brown had been murdered? >A: Yes. > I haven't got the answer. According to the fourth question, since Mr. Jones had provided some service to Mr. RB, perhaps, I think he was a repair-man. Another doubt, why did the auther emphasize the place--"Rome"? Does it have some special meanings? I would appreciate if the auther could offer a few more tips. :) By the way, I think this is a good way to set questions, for while we are thinking about the question, our English is also improved.:D
